Steuben County

Steuben County was established in 1796 and spans a broad Southern Tier landscape from the Cohocton and Chemung river valleys to the Finger Lakes hills. Bath is the county seat, while Corning is its largest city and an internationally known center of glassmaking and materials science. Hornell grew as a rail town, and Hammondsport became associated with early aviation, Keuka Lake, vineyards, and sparkling-wine history.

Visitors can watch glass demonstrations, explore art and aviation museums, walk Corning’s Gaffer District, visit Keuka Lake, hike county parks, or follow wine-country roads. The county park system includes Kanakadea, Birdseye Hollow, Harley Mayo, and Hornby. I-86 and I-99 connect the region with Pennsylvania and other Southern Tier communities, while Corning and Hornell provide health care, education, shopping, and year-round services.
